Camels Hump Day Trip

Camels Hump, Mt Macedon 28 Dec 2019

Jayden leading Grey Arete* (11) on a previous VCC trip to Camels Hump.

Xmas will be done and dusted so it’s time for climbing. If you can’t get away to the Gramps /Araps/Buffalo this weekend, why not take advantage of the coolness of Camels Hump in mid summer? Camels Hump offers the best climbing ‘close’ to Melbourne. It’s about an hour from Melbourne if you’re lucky enough to live north of the Yarra!

We will be climbing routes on both the Lower Cliff and up on the Omega Block at Camels Hump. It is quite a user friendly crag in terms of the area at the base of the climbs and the ability to set up top-ropes on some, or most of the climbs. If you intend to lead, bring along a few bolt plates as some of the routes still have some carrots for protection.

Trip Leader Michael O’Reilly

While the Omega Block is home to plenty of harder sport routes, it is also the home of Witch*, the first climb of that grade in  Victoria. Come along and test yourself on this classic line.

The Lower Cliff has a good range of intermediate climbs. Shade can usually be found, depending on the grades that you climb.

If you are interested in joining the VCC on this trip, please contact the Trip Leader, Michael O’Reilly, to secure your place. Beginner numbers may be limited, depending on the number of experienced leaders who come along. All intending participants must contact Michael prior to the trip.
