Winter Camp 2019 – Mt Feathertop

Mt Feathertop 17 Aug 2019 — 18 Aug 2019

This year Game of Thrones will be back and we’ll be back at Mt Feathertop.  Together with the New Zealand Alpine Club we’ll rock the Backcountry Event you really don’t want to miss!

You’ve done some rock-climbing and want to step it up? You’re thinking about doing a Technical Mountaineering Course? You want to climb the Himalayas? You’re a seasoned mountaineer and just want to enjoy a great weekend in the snow? This is EXACTLY the right trip for you.

Hopefully you can join us hiking up Bungalow Spur, or across the Razorback (whatever ticks your fancy), and meet at Federation Hut for a fluffy snow camp. There you have the choice between:

· Just enjoying winter wonderland and cooking some snow  OR

· Joining the mountaineers and practising self-arrest, building a Swiss pulley system and doing other weird things. For this option you’ll need an ice-axe, crampons and a climbing helmet at a bare minimum.

If you haven’t attended a previous VCC Mountaineering trip or Winter Camp, there will be a mandatory mid-week briefing in Melbourne prior to the trip.

This trip is suitable for all levels of experience, with limited spaces for beginners. The trip leaders – Anna, Matt, Petey and Philipp – have done all kinds of crazy stuff and some of them are also Alpine SAR Victoria members. You will be in safe hands.

If you’re new to snow-camping, please get in touch with us. There are a lot of things to consider which we will address at the briefing, however it doesn’t hurt to get a heads-up on the gear requirements.

More details regarding the Mountaineering Season 2019 will be released once we’re done with the planning. Feel free to email us any questions in the meantime

Winter is coming.
