Well-credentialed and very experienced climber Matt Brooks began, a few years ago, to formulate a document that summarised climbing and climbing management best practice.
He co-opted appropriately experienced climbers with the requisite knowledge and skills to act as a ‘steering committee’ and to begin to flesh out the contents of such a document.
This group has developed the Victorian Climbing Management Guidelines. It is now disseminated to the wider climbing community for their constructive feedback prior to future revisions.
It provides some illuminating examples and suggestions for how climbing access for recreational climbing and bouldering can be best maintained, whilst protecting the natural and cultural heritage environments of the crags and their surrounds.
